Week of 2-16-15

· Tech Tips, Uncategorized

This was a very fast week for me.  Started the week with the district staff development day.  I’m sure everyone from something to take away from the day.  There are so many great things happening during the day, it’s unfortunately we could visit everything.  I had the privilege of presenting to math teachers from across the district.  It’s great to get to work with so many great people.

There are many great things happening on campus.  Many iPad projects and computer based multimedia projects happening in multiple different subjects.  Classes using student response systems and interactive websites to enhance student learning has been popular.  It’s great to see the students being actively engaged with the instructional process.  The more we get the students involved, the better they will be learning.  If I can be of assistance with anything, let me know; we can sit down and design something.

8 Tips for Reaching Out to Parents website

As a teacher, working with parents is a given.  This should never be viewed as a negative thing.  I personally loved being able to communicate with parents; even the difficult parents.  Far too often parents are disinterested in their child’s education.  Maintaining healthy communication with parents greatly benefits you, the child, and the parent.  The above website has some great tips for reaching out to parents.  One of my favorites is #6 – “Call Home to Report Good News”.  It’s amazing how parents and students respond to positive communication.  We frequently only call home when there is a problem.  I personally have seen how this can transform even the roughest of students into a quality student.  Give the article a read for some great tips.

Tech Tip – Adjusting PowerPoint Screen Appearance

Are you seeing black bars on the left and right side of your screen when running a PowerPoint?

PPT - Wide vs Standard

This is due to the size setting of the PowerPoint presentation.  There is an easy fix to make it full screen.

  1. Click the Design ribbon (menu)
  2. Click on “Slide Size” on the right side
  3. Click on “Widescreen (16:9)

Entertainment Why English is Hard to Learn

We’ll begin with box; the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, and two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose is never called meese.

You may find a lone mouse or a house full of mice;
But the plural of house is houses, not hice.
The plural of man is always men,
But the plural of pan is never pen.

If I speak of a foot, you show me two feet,
And I give you a book, would a pair be a beek?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn’t two booths be called beeth?

If the singular’s this and the plural is these,
Should the plural of kiss be ever called keese?

We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his, and him;
But imagine the feminine…she, shis, and shim!
