This was a quick moving week. I was not on campuses for my normal visits due to STAAR testing. I know our students performed exceptionally on their tests because of all the great work all the teachers have done to prepare them.
In the coming weeks, with testing and INTERACT preparations, I will off campus quite a bit. The week of May 4-8, I will be off campus working with all the CITS in preparation of INTERACT. I will be accessible through e-mail that week, but will not be on campus. My last official days on campus this year will be the week of May 18. Starting May 25, the CITS will be completing the final preparations for INTERACT, summer trainings, the T3 conference, and other end of the year activities. While not on campus, I will be available as time permits.

Auschwitz: The Past is Present Virtual Experience – website
On May 13 at 12:00 PM, join Holocaust survivor Paula Lebovics, students, and teachers to learn about the importance of remembrance and why the past is ever present today. Your students will explore the rich history of Jewish life in Poland before the Holocaust, visit authentic memorial sites, and discuss the consequences of hatred and intolerance. There are resources for the teacher and students on the site for before and after the virtual experience. We have everything necessary in district to make this experience a success.
Minecraft in the Classroom – website
Our students love Minecraft. Why not take advantage of it. Minecraft fosters creativity, fun, learning, and many other features. Many educators have seen the possibilities of fitting this into their curriculum. Our district has embraced this concept. Recently LCISD purchased Minecraft Edu. This is a modified version of Minecraft that gives the teacher extensive control over the gaming environment while continuing to allow the students to play the game they have grown to love. Minecraft has possible uses in virtually every content area. If this is something you would like to explore, let me know. I would love to sit down with you and work this into your curriculum.
Tech Tip – Kronos
In Chrome, Kronos will no longer work. Google released an update for Chrome that has had a negative effect on a large number of websites. You will need to use Internet Explorer to access Kronos. If, when you try to log in, you received this error message:
You need to click on the Compatibility Mode button on the address bar (one time only)
If that button isn’t visible, here is another route you can do to enable Compatibility Mode as well:
Tools menu –> Compatibility View Settings –> Add “lcisd.org” to the list –> OK
