Week of 9/14-9/18

· Tech Tips, Uncategorized

An incredible week.  Lots of great activities happening in the classroom.  More teachers and students are seeing the value of Office 365.  Lots of iPad projects happening across the content areas.  Great things are happening on campus and the students are loving the innovative approach teachers are taking towards education.  We are reaching the students on their level, with devices they use every day outside of your classroom.  Let’s continue on this path to help our students excel.

There have been a couple of bumps this past couple weeks.  As many people have noticed, network drives have continually disappeared and reappeared.  Also, the guest wireless network and iOS network have had some issues.  The networking department is working hard to correct the issues.  As our district continues to grow, we are experiencing some growing pains.  If you are experiencing issues, please remember to submit work orders through the Help Desk icon.

At a Glance:

Splashtop & Other Free Apps

You can get Splashtop through the district’s free app account as well as many other apps.  LCISD created a district iTunes account to capture paid apps that become free for limited amounts of time so we can pass the savings to everyone in LCISD.  You will need to sign out of your iTunes account on the iPad and then sign into the district free apps account.  You can do this through the Settings app –> iTunes Store section.  For the district username and password, contact your CITS.

After signing into this account, search for and install Splashtop.  After installing, sign out of the district account immediately after installing so you don’t accidentally add other apps to the account.

Interactive Constitution – website

On this site, constitutional experts interact with each other to explore the Constitution’s history and what it means today. For each provision of the Constitution, scholars of different perspectives discuss what they agree upon, and what they disagree about. These experts were selected with the guidance of leaders of two prominent constitutional law organizations—The American Constitution Society and The Federalist Society.

Submitting Technology Work Orders

There has been a small change in the way work orders can be submitted.  You may continue to submit work orders by e-mailing the issue to helpdesk@lcisd.org.  Another way to submit work orders is through the “LCISD Help Desk” icon on your computer.

After the site opens, login using your LCISD credentials.  Click on “Help Desk” on the left side of the screen, then click New.  Choose the type of work order and then fill in the necessary fields.  Be sure to include all appropriate information so the work order can be routed appropriately.  Items to include, depending on the request, include room number, service tag number of the computer, make and model of the projector, and a detailed description of the problem.  You may also call x0220; they may be able to help you resolve the issue immediately over the phone minimizing your down time.
